PROJECT-2

1. Name of the Project:“DBT Mission for Quality Planting Material Production and Utilization for the North East.”

2. Project Period:5 (five) years (2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12)

3. Sanctioned amount: 94.45 lakhs + Cost of planting materials = 150.00 lakhs (approx)

4. Amount received:54.629 lakhs + Cost of 5,900 Nos. planting materials.

5. Source of fund:Deptt. of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

6. Objective of the project:
(a) Production of tissue culture quality planting material with inputs of bio-fertilizers & bio-pesticides etc. on the NE region.
(b) Setting up of quality farms for the identified products in each NE state.
(c) Strengthening of tissue culture infrastructure base & establishment of institutional linkages for effective implementation.
(d) Establishing marketing linkages for value products.
(e) Upliftment of socio-economic condition of the farmers through employment & income generation.

7. Target area:

T.C.Sabri banana-95 ha.
Cashew Nut- 15 ha.
Black Paper- 70 ha.

8. Number of beneficiary involved: 500 (five hundred).

9. Current Status:
(i) Principal Investigator of the project made a power point presentation on the progress of the project in presence of Task Force, DBT, Govt. of India, New Delhi 04 times.
(ii) 33.425ha. land has been developed in the land of beneficiaries with the TC sabri banana plantlets
(iii) Another 94 ha. land is in the process for raising TC sabri banana plantation.
(iv) 03 (Three) numbers poly houses has been constructed at Horticulture Research Complex, Nagicherra in consultation with Director,Directorate of Horticulture & Soil Conservation.
(v) 4 (Four) numbers poly houses have been constructed at ICAR Research Complex, Tripura Centre, Lembucherra for secondary hardening of TC sabri banana plantlets.
(vi) 02 (two) numbers poly houses have been constructed at nucleus nursery & model orchard of Sabri banana at Barabhaiya gram Panchayat in Matabari R.D. Block,South Tripura.
(vi) Tripura Biotechnology Council has conducted 04 (Four) training programmes on cultivation of TC sabri banana plantlets for the farmers of Tripura.
